Currently, the default is Starts with...
A more useful default would be Contains...

General search (on the right top corner) should do "contains" not "starts with"
+4I know what you mean. This is one of those places where performance considerations come into play. "Contains" is a MUCH more expensive query. In a large, busy Salesforce environment that query could take quite a long time which is why we set it up to not be the default.
