Bring Email Template Folders into consistency with other Horizon Folder Structures

Related products:CS Journey Orchestrator, Email & Notifications

matthew_lind

In the Horizon Email Template folder feature set, one

  • Cannot move a sub-folder from one main folder to another
  • Observes the folders do not sort alphabetically, but appear to be in the order created or last modified

Please bring consistency--and therefore intuitiveness and scale--to the Horizon Email Template folder structure by having its behavior match the other Gainsight CS product areas with folders (Rules Engine, Reports, Dashboards, Programs).

  • The ability to move sub-folders is helpful when moving groups of templates. Perhaps several email templates on a similar theme are being decommissioned. The ability to move an entire folder into an “Archive” main folder would speed up administration.
  • Having folders sort alphabetically is just plain intuitive. That they don’t currently…..someone help me understand that decision.

It’s especially helpful to have the folders in the Email Template area sort alphabetically and be easily reorganized because this is one area where the folder structure is seen by Gainsight End Users, when they are utilizing templates in Email Assist and Gainsight Assist.

Celebrity gif. Robert E Blackmon looks slick in a leather jacket with coiffed hair as he puckers his lips and swipes 2 pointing fingers below the text beside him. Text reads, "This. All of this," against a sparkling lavender background.

I couldn’t have said it better, @matthew_lind!

  • On alpha-sort: we use a labeling scheme like this for our template folders and sub-folders, which looks like…
    • 0. Templates
      • I. Sub-name
      • H. Sub-name
      • G. Sub-name
    • 1. One Time Sends
      Notice the backwards alphabet there?

  • On having subfolders move with their parents: wait… what? They don’t? 🤔

We’d like to have sub-folders display the way we intend them to. What was it @gunjanm said here? 🤣

Once again, I urge Gainsight to please stop making business decisions for us and accordingly limiting functionality for admins.

I’m with you, @dayn.johnson.

I too use “artificial alphabetization” workaround (which is a phrase I should probably copyright or something) and I’ve grown OK with that. I think many GS Admins have naming conventions and folder structures which operate on a similar basis.

That said, when my workaround requires a workaround, it’s time to lodge the reasons for enhancements.

Artificial alphabetization. I love it! 😂🤣

I tried doing a workaround (numbering the sub-folders), but that doesn’t work. It DOES work when I switch back to the old template experience, but that’s… not practical.

Folder AND Email template versioning should be sorted alphabetically, rather than date created/modified.  It’s really painful for admins.  Sort by created/modified dates are a good option, but should not be default.

I can’t grasp the mindset of a UX designer that would believe this functionality is acceptable.

Rules, DDs and JO program lists are all have the ability to be sorted by multiple fields.  Folders in RE, DD and JO are all sorted alphabetically.

Horizon templates have been here for awhile. @revathimenon, could we get some eyes 👀 on this? Should be an easy win. 😀

dayn.johnson   matthew_lind folders are already sorted alphabetically on Email Template listing page.

Only 4 folders are kept outside of this order as those are important & need to be highlighted. First 3 are blue coloured & put on top while last one is listed on bottom.

  1. All template (Master folder)
  2. Favorites
  3. System (Out of box templates shipped by GS)
  4. Uncategorised (contains templates which were not saved in any particular folder)

@matthew_lind also it possibly to move sub folder into another folder through drag & drop.

We can explore into also listing template versions in alphabetical order in future.

Thank you for the response, @ssamarth!

Question -- is it on the roadmap for us to be able to add or edit system templates?

We have no use for any of the existing templates there, and while it’s always nice to have inspiration and be able to see what’s possible with the Gainsight template editor, having a top-level folder be unuseable doesn’t make sense for us.

Please see these related threads by @kelly and @mobrien14 (with some great commentary from @alizee):
