Re-try Batch Failures "Unable to Gain Exclusive Access To This Record"

I have a couple customers who are running rules in environments that have quite a bit of workflows running in the background. We are running into a specific error along the lines of "Unable to Gain Exclusive Access To This Record". It appears this comes from a workflow having "checked out" the record we are trying to update simultaneously. 

Would there be any possibility of re-running the batch in the event that this error occurs?

There will be an enhancement which will help in configuring the batch size. Reducing batch size will reduce the probability of this error but it really depends on working with SF on best practise to avoid these errors.

Sundar any idea of timeline for implementation here?  Will this be customizable in the sense of for standard objects in SFDC being able to have a lower batch size to alleviate issues?
