In under five minutes, without much technical knowledge, you can see how the embeddable widgets will display on your website and what content will show up from the automatic search for a specific page.

You'll need some limited technical skills to follow the steps of this How To (e.g. to preview the in-page widget, you need to understand the basics of using the web inspector tool in your browser).

Before you start:
⚠️ Make sure you’ve included your website’s domain in your trusted domains in Control under ‘channel management’ before you start, otherwise the widgets won’t load.

How To Preview The Conversational Widget On Your Website

  1. Go to Control Integrations  EMBEDDABLE WIDGET Installation.
  2. Copy your embed code and paste it into a text editor.
  3. Edit your embed code (check out this code to see instructions on what to do).
  4. Copy this code into a bookmarklet (i.e. create a new bookmark in your browser, with the code as the URL, and the name set to whatever you’d like).
  5. Go to the page on your website on which you’d like to try the widget out on and click the bookmarklet.
  6. If it all went well, you’ll see the conversational widget immediately appear on the page (exactly as it would if you'd installed it for real).

How To Preview The In-page Widget On Your Website

  1. Follow the above instructions up to and including step four.
  2. Go to the page on your website on which you’d like to try the widget out on and edit the HTML to include a div element with the id attribute: 'insided-in-page-widget' (check out this code if you need help).
  3. Click the bookmarklet, and you’re done! If it all went well, you’ll see the in-page widget and the conversational widget immediately appear on the page.

🎯You could also try out the installation instructions for the in-page widget and conversational widget on staging versions of your website, if that’s an option for you.

🎯A bookmarklet is a bookmark stored in a web browser that contains JavaScript commands that add new features/functionality to the browser (like our embeddable widgets).

💎 Remember to improve the content returned by the automatic search in the embeddable widgets beforehand (see this How To).

⚠️ The embeddable widgets only display if content is found for the current page (to avoid your users seeing a blank widget). If no automatic topic suggestions are found for a page that you want to display the widgets on, use our content configuration tool to pin some topics in the widget for that URL.

⚠️If you have a Content Security Policy in place on your website, it might block the widgets from loading (this may affect installation of the embed code on your pages, as well as just using the bookmarklet to preview as described above). See Troubleshooting in How To Install The Conversational Widget for more information.
⚠️If the widget produces an error, please adjust the color settings for the embeddable widget and click preview a few times. This fixes the issue when attempting to embed it.
