We want to make sure you can build a successful and vibrant community. One part of that is making sure the community experience itself is as engaging as can be, but the other part is making sure that you can keep community members up to date on all the latest and greatest and get them to return to your thriving community. That’s where our Email Campaigns feature comes into play.

Keep in mind: we are a community product at heart, so while we would like to offer you the tools to keep your audience engaged, the email campaigns feature is intended to cover the basic use cases as an email tool. To cater for more advanced use cases, please consider (integrating with) dedicated email tools.

Email Campaigns allows you to craft compelling emails for a variety of use cases, for example:

  • A monthly community digest or newsletter to all your users (or a specific segment of users)

  • An onboarding flow that sends out emails 7, 14 or 30 days after registration

  • Create re-engagement campaigns to all users that haven’t been active for more than 30 days

  • Encourage users to join one of the available groups if they haven’t joined any in the first 30 days.

Features

  • Reach out to all registered users on your community

  • Filter your audience by primary role, custom role, last activity and registration date

  • Filter your audience by segment (upcoming feature)

  • Customize the theme for your email campaigns to match your branding

  • Use our native editor to draft email campaigns

  • Create one-off email campaigns that are sent out directly or at a scheduled time

  • Create automated email campaigns that trigger once a user matches the audience filters

  • View statistics of the individual campaigns (eg. delivery rate, open rate, click rate, unsubscribe rate, etc.)

Limitations

  • Email Campaigns only allows you to reach out to registered users on the community

  • Due to keeping bounce rates and spam rates in check, we are excluding users that haven’t been active for more than 365 days regardless of which filters you apply

This is great stuff @Sebastian ! Quick question. Any ETA on when the below might be coming. We have identified a great use for it. Thank you!

  • Filter your audience by segment (upcoming feature)”

Hi @Chris Hackett, we’re working hard on making the above available within the next 2-4 weeks.

I’d love to hear about your use case! Care to share?

Hi @Sebastian , we want to take the below segment and attach it to an email campaign encouraging more active participation:

Active viewers Users that visited the community in the last 90 days, but only viewed content

Hi @Sebastian

I notice that for my beta email campaigns tool, I’m not able to select any user segments in the target list of who to send the email to.

Am I mistaken or is this feature not included yet?

@timcavey You’re not mistaken, we’re currently putting the final touches on that feature. Stay tuned, it’ll be there soon!

I migrated my Community in Jan, and I want to send an email campaign to anyone who has not been active since May 1st, but when I select this filter, it only shows a small percentage of people.  We migrated around 4K users, but if I use registration date, it picks up the expected amount.  Is this a bug or working as designed?

I think I had similar problem, during the selection platform displayed only small number of users. But, when the platform sent the email there was much more users, way much more.

@revote I am not sure that is a good thing 🤣

@revote Think you could send me the URL to that campaign in a PM so I can investigate a bit further? The number of recipients when filtering and when sending should be identical.

@A11ey, I checked your instance, and the migrated users (that have a registration date on your previous platform) haven’t been active on the new community yet, hence the difference in numbers. If you want to reach out to them, you’ll indeed have to filter by Registration date.

Thanks @Sebastian! I didn't realize last activity date did not migrate over from our previous platform.

Hi @Sebastian any update on when this will be in GA?

@Anitahg We’re currently working improving our metrics to make them more specific, as well as connecting Segments to campaigns. Other than that, it’s good to go and we expect it to go to GA in the next few weeks.

We’ve just introduced a Groups filter, so if you want, you can already take it for a spin by only sending an email to the users of a specific group, instead of the whole community.

Hi @Sebastian - I tried the Groups filter today for a couple group specific emails. All worked fine but the number it says were sent is roughly half of the number of group members. Any idea why? 🤔

Update - they now seem to have all gone out but it seemed to take a day.

Thanks for the update @Chris Hackett! We’re currently investigating why this happened so that it won’t happen again in the future.

hi @Sebastian. any idea on when we can access the email campaigns feature? you said in this post that it was a beta feature that rolled out to “some” users and to stay tuned for the full feature….and that was a whole 4 months ago. i cant get my community to grow because our clients arent joining, because they dont know i’m posting content, and they dont know im posting content because theres no way for me to notify them via email that the content has been posted. you see the cyclical problem...

Hi @amy.evers, you can now opt-in to the Email Campaigns beta yourself through the Experimental Features page in Control. We’re making some final tweaks and adjustments to polish it for GA, but you’re free to take it for a spin!

Hi @Sebastian - how does a member re-subscribe? We have someone who un-subscribed and wishes to re-subscribe. Thanks!

Hi @Chris Hackett, they can go into their profile, and in the Settings section, they can opt back in at the bottom of that page. Bear in mind, we’ll improve our overall notification preferences in the near future with the upcoming release of the Notification Center.

hi @Sebastian. i’m currently building out my first email automation and i notice that the CTRL + V function doesnt work into the subject line. this is very frustrating as I have to retype my preferred sentence word for word into the subject line instead of simply copy + paste. do you think this is a bug in my browser? or was this an intentional design?

Hi @amy.evers, which browser are you currently using? I tried to replicate it using Arc and Chrome, but I could paste something in the subject line without any issued using Cmd + V (on a MacBook).
