My team frequently uses Email to Timeline to log meeting notes, etc.  We have added a Meeting Type picklist to Email, Call and Meeting tasks so that we can drill down on specific activity types.

The team will frequently go back and fill in the correct Meeting Type daily or weekly, however there is no way to see the Meeting Type field from the Activity Timeline view.  To help with the issue, I created a Timeline Activity report which does allow them to see the “Meeting Type” field, however when we click on the link to the Timeline entry (using the subject field), there is no ability to edit.

This is the view that a Timeline Activity report links to.

@jrosenbloomcs Can you please explain “however there is no way to see the Meeting Type field from the Activity Timeline view.”

I am not sure if I understood the problem.

As you can see above, we added “Meeting Type” to the Email Activity Type.  This is a picklist field that allows us to further classify an activity type, whether Call, Email, or Webinar, with a specific topic, such as Quarterly Business Review, Customer Meeting, Meeting Notes, Health Check, etc.

We use Email to Timeline extensively and our TAMs are required to go back and edit the Meeting Type for emails once logged to Timeline.

The Activity Timeline view does not allow users to filter by this custom attribute as seen below.

Due to this, Activities cannot be filtered in the Timeline view by this “Meeting Type” attribute.  To understand which items need updating, the user must expand each Timeline Entry to view the full detail.

Default, unexpanded view only shows the Activity Type

We have to hit the arrow to expand to see Meeting Type

If a user sends 15 Email to Timeline entries/day it can be very cumbersome to determine which entries need updating.

The fix for this was to build an activity timeline report.  The issue is that when we pivot to a timeline entry from the report we're unable to edit.
