I would like to see the groups feature built out a bit more. Groups should have the ability to assign roles within a group such as a “leadership” role. I would also like to see gamification implemented in user groups automatically. Groups should also be able to be automatically populated. For example, I want everyone that has reached a certain amount of points to be populated into a group.
Hello
Typically, user groups use a leadership role to define who is in charge of the group
Hi
- Private groups are shown to the public. We are looking to organize totally private groups meaning they are not shown on the overall group's page. Solution: Only show private groups for people who are members of the group.
- Members cannot be added to the group, even manually. Solution: The administrator is able to send an invitation to potential group members.
- Anyone can request access to a private group. Some of these groups don't need to be seen by everyone because not everyone qualifies for their membership. Solution: Only those with an invitation to the group can request access to the group.
- There should be an administrator of the group. Solution: A Community Admin should be able to assign a "leader" role to another member.
- There is a lack of notifications to admins when a member tries to join a group. Solution: Each time a person submits a request to join a group, all of the assigned tenant admins should be notified. Solution: Implement admin-level notifications.
- Communication to the applicant is limited. Solution: Allow a customizable message to be displayed on-screen and sent to the applicant's email when an application is received. Once the application has been approved, another message should be sent notifying the applicant of the approval.
Some great ideas here Love the idea
I’d suggest checking out this recent change I asked for (that’s now delivered partially by
Also vote for this one about inviting users to groups
We’ve also discussed the topic of having hidden groups not appear before here, not sure if that ever moved into an idea.
And the two topics noted here may also fit well with the private groups being shown or not shown:
Hello
More globally I'm curious to learn more about the types of groups you wish to create? To achieve what goal? @Scott Baldwin I'm also curious to hear your inputs on this :)
Thanks
- Private groups might include something like a group for moderators, for beta testers supporting a particular feature, for our customer advisory boards, or for use by an internal team). For these I don’t want the group to appear on the groups page by default and to only appear when the member is invited to join the group (it can then appear in their groups). For these kinds of groups we’re often trying to learn from others but also don’t want the rest of the community to be aware of the group and even able to request access.
- Public groups would be around role, location, interests. Here these would be find to display. Often the goal here is to encourage awareness and the network effect between community members that are in the group. For example, I might want a group of people located in the same city to get to know one another, connect, network, etc.
Hope that helps.
Thanks a lot @Scott Baldwin that helps a lot :)
- Have a hidden group that is only visible to user with a specific role (primary or custom). User with that role can see the content within the group and are free to join
- Have a hidden group that is visible to members only. So you would need to invite each members for them to see the group
