How do you stay updated on latest trends/best practices in community growth and managed

I know there are a mix of folks here who have had decade years of experience managing a community & others who are probably just few years into it (I’m on the latter side, hence this post 😁).

I have this question hovering in my mind, if any one could help me with their experience on this.

  • How you all stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in community growth and management? What are these sources of information?
  • I’d love to also know if there is perhaps something that is not directly in the Community Management/Growth area, but something you’ve found especially helpful or inspirational to support your approach towards community?

Hoping to hear & learn from you all!

@revathimenon - I will be the first to admit I don’t utilize it as much as I should but communityroundtable.com is a great resource.

I’m on the marketing lists for 5 or 6 non-Insided vendors and occasionally attend their webinars if they have thought leadership beyond their platform.

And I’m subscribe to a few newsletters:

And a few more, but those are my 5 favorites.

And I’m on the marketing lists for CMX and The Community Roundtable, occasionally attending their events. And there are probably a dozen other communities for community managers, most of them seem to be slack groups that I don’t love.

But the best way I’ve found is to connect with or just Follow these same people and others they amplify on Linkedin. I probably have 20 community thought leaders or working community managers that fill my feed with interesting blogs on community or community-adjacent topics a few times per week.

Thank you so much @DannyPancratz, that is a goldmine!

I also highly recommend the Community Club - not only do they have an amazing & helpful community of community-builders (so meta!) on slack, but also they publish lots of useful resources on their website.

As well as the Community Club Weekly Newsletter you can sign up to.

Cheers!

@Daniele Cmty I should have mentioned the Community Club; I’m on that list too.

I agree, their resources are often quite useful.

Thanks for calling that out.

Podcasts are my favorite flavor of thought leadership! Unfortunately, the stream has really dried up in the past 8 months or so. Each of them has a long list of past episodes, though, for folks to catch up.

My favorites:

  • The Community-Led Show
  • Masters of Community with David Spinks
  • In Before the Lock with Erika Kuhl and David Oblinger
  • Facilitator Forum, though it was more about connecting individuals in conversation
  • The Community-Led Growth Show with Joel Primack
  • Uncommon Conversations
