Hi everyone,

We recently switched our courses from linear to free form to allow learners to navigate to different units if they’re only interested in a specific topic. We still want to ensure they’re completing the videos and quizzes, though, if they’re working towards the course certificate.

We’re a bit stumped about what messaging we should use in the milestones, since they’re now visible as an activity in the course.

Does anyone have any examples of what you’ve called your Milestones or what types of messaging you’ve used for complete and incomplete Milestones?

Thanks!

HI @Olivia Brennan!

We call our milestones a Course Completion Checklist. We use them in free-form courses too, and it just indicates to learners that if they want to mark the course as complete then they need to complete the items in the list.

This is super helpful. I love that you’ve incorporated a points system into your course.

Thanks Joel!

Yeah, we use Quiz type activities by default so that we can have a knowledge check at the end of each activity. We have a custom points system so that learners accumulate points as they go through content answering questions.

The only tricky part is that many of our activities have videos so using videos in a Quiz-type activity requires a bit of fiddling!

Looks like the fiddling has paid off!

Thanks for sharing this info and screenshots. We were hung up thinking we had to create a separate milestone after each quiz/video, which was an awkward learner experience. Seeing your checklist got us to our “ah-ha moment”! I think we have a solution now.
