How did you get started as a Gainsight Administrator?
By accident really…I was a CSM and my VP had just purchased Gainsight – I believe we were the 5th customer when it was still called Jbara. Early in my career – I was mentored to never so no to a new project or request. So when my VP came to me and asked if I wanted to work with the Jbara team and implement for our CSM team…I said yes!!! I had no idea what I was getting into to. I feel like I was pretty lucky – being one of the first few customers – we got A LOT of guidance and assistance from Jbara/Gainsight team.

What is your favorite part of your role?
I think trying to simplify what the CSMs have to do on a daily basis so they can focus more on their customers and also being able to give them credit for all they do via reporting.
-
What tip would you give to anyone getting started in this role?
Don’t get overwhelmed.
Gainsight has grown a lot over the years…but start out simple…. Focus on what will provide the biggest impact. Consolidate information from different sources into a C360 view….very easy but super impactful. Create a few easy early warning sign triggers to help the CSMs prioritize. You don’t have to do it all at once…start small and then grow…Don’t be afraid to go to office hours…a 5 min conversation with

Is there anything you would have done differently when starting out?
YES – be more active in the community and the Admin slack channel. There are so many people out there who want to help…you just need to ask.
-
What is the next challenge you are about to tackle in your role?
Success at Scale!
How can we automate many of the touchpoints the CSMs have with customers today so that all customers at all levels feel the personal touch!
Victoria, I love these responses!! Your tips about “don’t get overwhelmed” support the “Crawl/Walk/Run” methodology Gainsight recommends and I agree it’s one of the most impactful recommendations for new admins.
Also, I appreciate your shoutout about participating in Office Hours, Community, and Slack and love that you’re demonstrating that here! 💙
In closing, I hope these words inspire our members to start simple, engage with the admin community for help and ideas, and don’t be afraid to take on a new challenge!!
