Just wondering if its just our community or if this is a wider issue?

It's not causing a problem as such, other than seeing loads of them being created so we have to keep filtering them out when we are trying to track the success of a piece of work to drive signs ups etc.

We've reported several times to the support team and they have been great at blocking certain domains that are clearly spam but it doesn't seem to be getting any better............
Hi Darran,

Sorry to hear you're having to deal with this. We've had our fair share of spam, however it seems to finally be dwindling down. Spam is horribly annoying and takes a lot of time and effort to deal with, depending on how much you get, and how well the platform deals with it.

InSided's most recent anti-spam implementations seems to have deterred the ones on Sonos, for now. Most spammers these days are human, as forum software in general has become very good at detecting auto-spam. Careful with the sneaky ones that will bump and old'ish topic with a seemingly innocent post containing a bogus link to their website - veteran forum users are very good at spotting these.

The easiest way of filtering spam from your data exports, is filtering out anything by banned users, rather than purged or trashed. Granted, a number of topics or posts may be lost in the filter, but those users were probably banned because they didn't bring anything positive to the community in the first place. ;)

Two things to keep in mind about spammers, if you're dealing with them now:

  1. They WILL go away again.

  2. They WILL come back.

Good luck! 😃
Hey @Ditte

Yeah we've seeing quite a few random comments that link to ipads, or most recently large comments all about Nike trainers with bad links in to other suspect sites.

I guess it seems as you say it will never go away so we just have to continue managing as best we can with the tools we have available!! Good shout re filtering out banned users, we've had a few more recently we've had to do that with so can definitely filter then out, just takes a bit more time to sort!

Hope you are well.

Darran
The bots are continuing to create hundreds of fake signs ups! It adds some fun to our days for sure........having to trawl pages of fake accounts to find the real ones that we need to nurture!!

Fingers crossed the new spam prevention stuff comes soon.

Darran
This has been ongoing in our community since mid-December. I posted an idea to implement a seamless/invisible version of Google's reCAPTCHA on the registration page.

Hey @Drew C. they really need to do something.

Maryam mentioned they are working on it, but haven't seen any updates as yet......
Hey,

We're aware of the increase of fake accounts and will investigate this. Next to that we'll check if the rate limiters are applied correctly.
