Hi All,

We are about to launch the new Hub-style homepage and were wondering if we could also add a sort of video library for instance under the ´´Get Started´´ section where customers could have all tutorials at one place.

Hi @csz ?,

Yes you could go about it in a couple of ways.

You could use a custom HTML widget to then embed multiple videos in one single widget on the hub. This would benefit the end user as they would be able to directly play the video from the homepage.

You could also create a video library category and then share each individual video in separate topics. This would benefit the end user as they would be able to post replies on each topic that is relevant to each video posted. The videos would then also be indexed in the community search. You could also then use the featured topics widget to feature selected videos on the homepage and update this as new videos get added.

Make sure that the video content is in one of the supported media types found here:

Hi @olimarrio ,

Could we schedule a quick demo of the options please? 🙂 You have my email. Thank you

@csz an option I’m considering currently is using a video Tag.

We have a lot of videos in specific categories, like Oliver suggests as option 2, but not all videos are there.

I’m leaning towards adding a public tag that would allow me to group them together in a quicklink that jumps to a search for that tag. That way, videos in any category could come up in the search. It’s not quite a library, just a specific search (and tbh, the search UI needs a major refresh), but it’d be a starting point.

Here’s something else I do for our videos in case you find it helpful:

Thanks a lot for the tip @DannyPancratz :)

@olimarrio  I tried adding a video as a widget and now our Community just went crazy, and its not responding to further customisation from my end… raised a support ticket

Hi @csz, I can see that you’ve been well supported by the great @tom.shaddock to help you resolve this. It’s always good to test these custom HTML widgets in your staging environment first to make sure it doesn’t break anything on production. Sometimes things such as missing HTML tags can cause some strange behaviour.

I can also see he showed you how to display multiple videos in one HTML widget. If you’d like any more help with this or to discuss it further I am more than happy to as well 😀

Really like the ideas in the topic you posted as well @DannyPancratz, maybe something we could leverage more for inSpired @Alistair FIeld?

Hi @olimarrio ,

Indeed, i feel like abusing Tom´s willingness to help the past days 😃 Joke aside, very grateful for the great support you guys are providing 🙂 Im afraid im gonna have some more questions as we are switching on the Hub feature shortly.. :)

Has any one tried a custom page to display the videos?

Hi echoing @summers question - anyone tried this? We’re also looking to create a video library (yesterday 😅) and I’m looking for best practices to do so. I’d be super gratefully if someone would be able to share some best practice examples. @Julian

Hi @summers & @Anitahg 👋,

Whilst I don’t have any live examples of custom pages on hand, what you could do is similar to what @Ronit Konitzki and the Buk community have done is create a video library category. This allows you all of the benefits that I mentioned in my first reply on this topic.

You could then create a custom page and use the Dynamic Content Widget to display the topics containing videos from this particular category sorted by total views, last activity, number of replies, or publication date. You could then add a link at the bottom of the page to access the category itself if needed.

This will give you all of the Customisation options and widgets that you are familiar with and give you more flexibility in how you display this video library.

If you wanted end users to be able to play videos directly from the custom page you would need to use the custom HTML widget to embed the video. This would require manual updates each time videos are added to your video library.

Let me know if you have any questions or if anything is unclear!
