Reporting on Top Contributors by Individual Community (Not Overall

Hi everyone šŸ‘‹

We’re trying to understand if there’s a way to create a user-level report that showcases top contributors (by number of replies) for a specific community, rather than across all communities.

Context:

  • Our setup includes multiple communities that share the same backend analytics

  • Today, most contributor-style reports seem to aggregate activity across all communities

  • What we’re looking for is visibility into:

    • Users with the most replies within a single community

    • Ideally filterable or reportable per community, not overall

Questions:

  • Is this possible today using Gainsight Communities reporting or backend data?

  • Are there recommended workarounds (custom reports, exports, or data modeling) to achieve this?

  • If not currently supported, is this something on the roadmap?

Would love to hear how others are handling contributor recognition or community-specific engagement reporting in similar setups. Thanks in advance!

Hi @SukrityWĀ

In your specific use case, "community" refers to "category."Ā

Out-of-the-box User dashboard doesn’t allow filtering user activities by categories. We recommend using Community Data Lake, as querying data from it enables you to apply category filters to get the specific data you need. If you need more assistance please let us know.Ā

Hi @Aleksandra,Ā

Thanks for the clarification!Ā This isĀ helpful, especially mapping community to category šŸ‘

I’m not very familiar with Community Data Lake, so I wanted to understand this a bit better:

  • What exactly is the Community Data Lake in the context of Gainsight Communities?

  • Is this something that’s available by default, or does it require additional setup / enablement?

  • Would this require SQL access or support from Gainsight Services to query?

  • Are there any docs or examples you can point to that show how user activity (replies) can be filtered by category using the Data Lake?

Trying to assess feasibility here, since our goal is to surface top contributors per category/community for ongoing community programs and recognition.
Appreciate the guidance!

Hi @SukrityWĀ

I'm glad the clarification was helpful!

Here’s some information about the Community Data Lake in the context of Gainsight Communities:

  • Gainsight exposes community data through the Data Lake, allowing you to access detailed activity data related to your communities
  • You can connect to the Data Lake using Data Connectors available in Control Integrations Page. Once you have access, you can either query the data directly in the Data Lake or copy data objects to your own data warehouse. To query directly, customers often use tools like Power BI, Looker, or Tableau.
  • All data objects exposed in the Data Lake are documented inĀ this KB section.Ā
  • Access to the Data Lake provides unlimited possibilities to build custom analytics tailored to your specific needs, enabling you to analyze data in ways that best suit your goals.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
