Hi all!

I am looking for some best practices… We are starting out with our user group program with specifically localized user group to bring these customers together (mostly virtual). For some user group I already have a host (customer) for other I am in the lead for now…

But to get to groups started we want to start hosting some first virtual meet ups… But as not all our community members have found the user groups yet, I am wondering what your advise/best practice is for promoting user group meetups: As a Public event (and perhaps a referral to the User Group in the event description), or just keep them as a Group event (and only visible for people who are a member of such a user group).

What do you do? And why?

@Sanne van Opstal-Brakel - Just to clarify? When you say “User Groups”- do you mean groups that are led by customers? If so, one of my team members relaunched our UG program in 2025 with HUGE success - going from 28 to 61 user groups globally in just one year. If you’d like, I can connect you with her. There’s a lot of info to share, so a call would be best. :) Let me know!

Yes please @JeniA 💗 Currently it's both. About 50% is customer-led and I have a customer ready to be appointed as a group moderator as soon as that feature is released. The other 50% is still led by me (or a local colleague) and we are starting them up on request but are still looking to grow them and appoint a customer moderator/manager.

How do you promote your user group meet ups in your community? Are they open/visible for all (a public event) or only visible for those specific user groups?

@Sanne van Opstal-Brakel - If you want to shoot me your email address, I’ll connect you with my team member. She’ll be able to answer all the questions better than me. 😉

Hi @Sanne van Opstal-Brakel, I’m happy to chat further about this as well, if you’re interested. To answer some of your questions, we currently have all our groups Private, which enables us to create events tied directly to a group. However, early on, most of our groups were Public, and we did a lot of what you mentioned—open events that link to the group and invite people to join. Now, with some of our groups hosting regular events, those events drive group registrations, because people hear about the events from others and are interested in attending, so we direct them to join the group.

We are focusing this year on growing the number of customers who lead groups, and we treat Group Leadership almost like its own separate program. We recruit openly and have various resources in the Community to help people understand what’s involved (and what’s in it for them) before they express interest.

As I said, happy to talk more if you have other specific questions!
