Action Execution Schedule - What is executed outside of it?

Is it correct that eval steps and wait timers are not affected by the Action Execution Schedule? If I want emails to only go out on Tuesday and Thursday, I just need to wait step participants into the dead zone between live days?

The docs say "The Action Execution Schedule feature helps admins set the schedule for when actions such as emails, surveys, and APIs should be executed for the customers.' Which makes it unclear if those are the ONLY actions that are processed during the scheduled time, or if there are others

I’ve interpreted the documentation to mean Participants go into a bit of a pause until the Action Execution Schedule opens.

Put another way, I build as if the “Send Email” or “Send Survey” steps include a “built in” delay until the Action Execution Schedule window is reached.

I concur with your interpretation...if you want emails on Tuesday and Thursday only, then you build the Action Execution Schedule for Tuesday and Thursday, and you build the Delays or Evaluates after an email such that your Participants land in the dead zone (love that visual), at which point the Participant is queued up waiting for the next open window to send email.

Thanks @matthew_lind I have the same question about weekends.  I am slow playing it a bit - the Dynamic Program is unscheduled right now, so I will be able to see if the delay-send waits until I run it again manually (Monday).  Then when I schedule this to run on weekends, I can test your assumption above.  I believe next steps will only fire on scheduled days, but will report back here when I have evidence either way.  Thanks @dayn.johnson for referring me to this post.

Quick update on my controlled testing:

Dynamic JO without a Program Schedule (Publish One Time) and without Action Execution Schedule (under Audience: Advanced Settings) did send updates on the weekend.   That’s logical.

Dynamic JO with a Program Schedule (Run on Every Weekday) and without Action Execution Schedule (under Audience: Advanced Settings) DID send updates on the weekend.   That did not make me happy.

Published Dynamic JO - could not pause and change the Action Execution Schedule - which is expected now, but I think that will be possible planned change in the April 2025 release.

Cloned and Tweaked Dynamic JO: has Program Schedule (Run on Every Weekday) with Action Execution Schedule (M-F Common Timezone) DID NOT SEND on Weekends (desired result).  Also sent on a US holiday - but I think that is an edge case I can deal with for now...
