I’m looking for suggestions on how best to document rules. Particularly capturing the data sources with fields/filters/transforms/formula fields has proven tricky to do in any bit of a clean way. I’m currently working in excel, listing each object and their fields, and in a separate column noting a filter. Below each I’m indicating any formula fields. Highlighting fields that are joins. It feels sloppy and there is no quick way to work through the longer sets where you may be pulling 50 fields from an object.

I haven’t figured out a solution that I love for documentation but if you haven’t had a chance to utilize the Configuration Export before, it may help with pulling some data or helping to more easily maintain it.

Analyzer → Configuration Home → Export → MDA Assets Counts + Details

It lets you know if the rule is active, scheduled, part of a rule chain, folder path, source and destination object information along with create/modified by dates and users. I use this data for all features when doing clean up work, renaming, impact calculations, etc.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t show some of the more granular detail that you’re looking for like filters, fields and formulas. So it may cut down on some time but isn’t a full replacement

@lila_meyer shared this a while back that may help:
