Good Afternoon-

I'm the new gainisght admin, and I am trying to wrap my head around how the MDA is structured, what data is there, what field names are there, etc. so I can properly create rules, reports, etc.

Is there a way to export all MDA data to a .csv so it can be opened in Excel?

Maybe with different tabs for different data spaces?

Thanks

-Jim
Hi Jim,

Welcome to the Gainsight Community! If you haven't seen this object glossary yet, it should be helpful. I don't think you can do an export of the MDA data, but in Admin > Data Management > Objects > click an object name, and you can view an Object Graph to see how the objects are related to each other and their associated fields.

Eventually, you may also find the Config Snapshot helpful, which allows you to export information on your Gainsight configuration.
Hi Jim - one additional thing to add to Lila's post is to think of MDA as a relational database with multiple tables (or objects). Some objects are standard 'out of the box' and you can also create your own custom objects with as many custom fields that you want.

You can export the data in an MDA object to a csv, which could be pulled into Excel, but it would be a tedious process to do that with every MDA object.

It might be helpful if we try to help with the specific use case or challenge you're trying to solve if you can share what you had in mind to do once you had the data from MDA in Excel.
Hi Dan-

My goal with exporting MDA data is to simply understand what data is in the MDA and how my changes to Gainsight Connect, the Rules Engine, etc. alter that data.

I'm not really trying to transform the data in any meaningful way, just trying to figure out what's there.

Thanks

Hi Dan-

Where would I go to accomplish this:

"You can export the data in an MDA object to a csv, "

Thanks

Hi Jim,

If the only thing you are looking to do is to view the data, you can do this by going to Administration > Data Management and selecting the object you are interested in, and then selecting the menu option for Data. This will let you view the data that is in that table.

If you want to view a CSV of the data, you can do this a couple different ways. The easiest would be to build a report on that object and select all relevant fields ( you may not be interested in all of them) and then select the export option (depending on the number of records, you will either be presented with an Excel export downloaded via your browser or on larger data sets, a CSV that will be emailed to you).

The other option is more advanced and involves creating a bionic rule to export your data to S3. More info here on that option: https://support.gainsight.com/Product_Documentation/Rules_Engine/Examples_and_Tutorials/Export_to_S3...
Hi Dan-

Thanks.  The biggest issue I have with viewing the data via Data Management is that you're limited to 1000 records.

Is a .csv export function in Data Management on the product roadmap?  This would be invaluable.

Thanks

So two things I'd suggest - you can filter the data shown in Data Management, so ideally the data you'd be wanting to review could be filtered down to get <1000 records.

If not, then the export via reporting or rules engine will get you what you need.

Hope this gains traction.
