Hi.

I am seeing some differences between Report and Data Designer. Which is, while creating the report using MDA Call To Action Object and in Filters if I used and Status or Type Fields it is showing up as Picklist, where as the same object in Data Designer creation the same fields are not working as Picklist.

Screenshots Using Report Builder:

Screenshot using Data Designer:

Just want to know is this expected behaviour or am I miss something.

If that is the expected behaviour, please provide us the option to choose the values from the picklist(Like shown in Report) instead of we giving values.

Thanks.

I just recently ran across this when creating a few data designer reports and can confirm that I experienced the same behavior as @phani_kumar. While it isn’t a huge deal to provide the values it does lead to a bit more work to be sure everything is entered correctly.

Hi all,

This is expected. We do some manipulations on the field and objects and simplify the structure for our customers in Report Builder. However, with Data Designer product, try not to do any such manipulations and show the objects and fields as-is because

  • This gives a better understanding of underlying data and greater flexibility in some cases
  • With reporting, we want the simplest of the experiences since we want to open up reporting to even CSM’s

That being said, I’ll check with the team to see in this instance, can we do anything better.

Hi @sai_ram, I partially agree with @rakesh points.

My concern was, we are showing the dropdown values in the Rules and Report, then why not DD.

Recently when I checked, in rules also we are showing the dropdown values when we select the “ID” field.

Screenshot for the same:

Thanks.

I would second @phani_kumar’s point of consistency throughout the application. I think it's important for people to have the same experience no matter where in the product they are. If implementing this would break or limit some of the features of data designer, then maybe an informational icon or support article mentioning why this functionality does not exist would be helpful. As it stands right now it gives the appearance of a bug since it behaves differently depending on where in the app you are.

I agree - consistency across the platform is important not only as an admin but as an end-user. @phani_kumar have you published your report yet and made it available in the general “reports?” and does it look different than it would if it was done natively in reports?

On this specific limitation @bradley, with the new horizon reporting, we will have the opportunity to make sure reports that are created in DD and Reporting look similar.

More generally, we will work on providing consistent experiences.
