This idea likely has a pre-requisite of this idea:

My thinking: Options to a “announce” a new event are limited to low-value topic posts that create clutter in search etc. Really what those posts are trying to accomplish is to get “new event created” into activity feeds to promote awareness.

Add events to the types of content that show in the feed seems like the way to solve it. Although it likely comes with downstream complications like the idea shared above: you’d want your mindset to be more of a “publishing” mindset like with articles and product updates, which would require the ability to save events as a draft until ready to publish. (vote for that idea above!)

Hi @DannyPancratz, thanks for submitting your idea. Can you give us some more detail about why you want to display events in the activity stream? Homepage customization is offering featured topic widget in which you can promote events that you want. Also, there are both full width and sidebar widgets called 'Events Calendar' which getting events dynamically so you do not need to configure every time you have an upcoming event. Do you think they are not enough to get attention?

I'd put this idea to 'open' to collect more votes and feedback.

Hi, @dilekgencer

The ability to feature events in widgets is helpful, but it doesn’t serve the “announce” use case I mention above. Similar to how events are often announced via email, it’d be good to have a way to do that in the feed.

For new events that fall between existing events or may be further away in date, it may not make sense to feature them via widgets and/or they won’t show in the next X events displayed chronologically in the widget.

At my last community, we created a process to create a topic in our forums to “announce” a new event and get it to show in the feeds of recently activity. While this serves the use case, it creates topic clutter and throws off activity metrics.

From my experiencing, announcing events for the first time is a valuable way to 1.) drive awareness and registration, and 2.) get a sense of community interest , and 3.) get attendees to block and protect the time on their calendar.

Totally. A new Event needs to show up on the timelines… I’d go as far to say even when people click on ‘Register’ that action should also show up… all of these add to the noise around the Event and registrations.

We see it work on LinkedIn all the time.
