How to edit the group type (public, private or hidden) of a group
Private and hidden groups are currently only available on our business and enterprise packages.
How to edit the group type of a group?
You can edit a group for any type to any type:
From public to private
From public to hidden
From private to public
From private to hidden
From hidden to public
From hidden to private
Here is how:
Navigate to Control → Platform → Group
Select on the group you would like to edit
Click on the top right Edit group type
Select the new group type and click Saves changes
When editing a group from private to public or private to hidden, you should have no pending requests to join. You have to decline or approve them before making the switch.

Sorry @Marion Frecaut forgot to ask: what about private groups we don’t want to show in the overview for other than it’s members, I don’t see that functionality in place yet?
Hello @Anitahg those will be what we decided to call hidden groups. They are not implemented yet but are planned in our roadmap and are part of the improvements we aim to deliver on group.
Of course when they are implemented, you will be able to edit an exiting group (public or private) to become a hidden group.
@Marion Frecaut thanks any idea on when? We have 40+ customer logos we’re waiting to offer hidden groups:)
Is this something that requires a request to switch on? I don’t have it on our site.
Hi @greig.strafford.community,
Private groups and events are currently only available on our business and enterprise packages. It seems like Veovo is currently on our professional package.

@Sebastian If I have created a private group and invited members via the join link. If I update the group type to Hidden, will the join link no longer work?
I have a questions about a Group launch scenario - our first with an external / customer-facing group. Like others I’ve seen post, we’re facing some hurdles onboarding both customers who have a community profile and others who do not. (Members can only join via SSO.)
We’re also juggling the cat-herding that comes with chasing busy customers and asking them to look in their spam folders if needed and close the loop, etc.
What would be the downside or considerations if we were to make our Group “Private” for the duration (say two weeks) of the recruitment and onboarding effort to the bulk of members and then shift it to “Hidden”? (What we want long term for this particular Group)
It would help for the active launch phase to have the option of sharing the join link or having customers we are asking to join be able to click the button instead of look for an email invite
At this point we don’t publicize Groups or the Groups landing page as a whole, so I don’t see an obvious way other members would stumble on to the Group we want to launch first… and if they did could just redirect them / decline request to join at this time
I understand if we toggle from Private to Hidden it will cause links and open invites to join to expire / not work, is that correct?
Is there anything I’m missing that we should know before testing this route? cc @Vishwas Katti
