Leaderboard opt-out request

Last week we introduced the Leaderboard feature to our community. We've received a lot of feedback already, with one main recurring request.

A lot of our users have no interest in the leaderboard and would like an opt-out option so they are excluded from the point allocation and won't be shown on the leaderboard.

At the moment, the only exclusion possible is through role selection in the Gamification Point System settings.

Would it be possible to add a user based opt-out setting, like there is for badges?

Hi @Stijn, thanks for your feedback! While we don’t support users to do this for themselves yet, there is a workaround for when they bring this up to the community team. You can create a custom role (eg. Leaderboard opt-out) and then exclude users with this role from the leaderboard. You can do this on the Gamification > Point System page in Control.

Ah, right. I had found that this can be done with Primary User Roles, which would be rather impractical, but I hadn't noticed it can be done with Custom User Roles as well. That would indeed be a decent workaround for now. Thanks for the suggestion!

Adding a +1 to this idea.

A number of our superusers would like to be able to opt-out of any and all gamification. While I agree a work-around is a good temporary solution, allowing all users to control this setting for themselves would be preferable. :)

Cheers,

Ditte

I’ve implemented the workaround for the opt-out with a Custom User Role, but it appears to not be working correctly. The users who have the opt-out enabled are only removed from the full leaderboard view. They are however still being included in the top x display on the frontpage, on both the week and the all-time tabs.

Can this be investigated?

Never mind, I just found the cause and the solution. I had missed that the front page leaderboard view had it's own exclusion list via the front page customisation view. I had not added the Custom User Role to that list yet.

Hey @Stijn I just had a member request to be ignored. Would you mind sharing how you configured that role?
