Allow reorder case statements in rules engine / data designer

Hi there,

It seems that we’re not able to re-order cases in case statement fields in Data Designer, Query Builder (JO) and Rules Engine.

Use case for reordering:

  1. Move from 1 to several cases, which calls for changing case order
  2. Mistake in the build (not realizing that a case is cancelling the first one when you build)

How should it work:

Ideally, we should be able to reorder the case statements exactly in the same way we’re able to re-order actions in Rules Engine: drag and drop the cases up and down.

We should also - like we can in filters - be able to create the case “in the middle” of two cases to avoid these issues (in the above screenshot example, it wouldn’t change anything but it would when there are three or more cases) with a plus sign after each case, to add the next case where we want in the sequence.

Thanks for chiming in and listening!

+1, I tried to reorder case statements in the UI last week after realizing I’d entered them in the wrong order.. to find out nope, you can’t drag and drop to reorder! A great QoL enhancement, especially where there are many case statements, with many criteria and different advanced logic.

Ability to create a date case statement would be nice to have too, just sayin! 😉

@Stuart Ahah I believe there’s a separate idea for the date case statement. ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED.

This, 100% -- copying from one screen to the next is just an error waiting to happen. 😅

This is a painful experience!  The order of case statements is what makes them work, and I have stakeholders that tell me about an exception after v1 is complete … meaning I need to re-write the entire case statement to first look for an exception.  Hours of my life are gone because case statements cannot be re-ordered.

Similarly, it would be fantastic if we were able to move Data Designer components (like in Dynamic JO) so we didn’t have to completely redo all of our work if we needed to add a step. Feels like I’ve seen that idea somewhere…

UPDATE: found it!
