Add criteria for automatically assigning a badge when a user fills in optional profile fields. For example, a badge could be awarded when a user uploads a profile photo.

You got my vote!

Sounds good! I’ll leave the idea open to gather votes and additional comments.

@Sebastian and team. I love this idea (and voted for it), but wanted to point out that it could be partially delivered (and enabled via Zapier / the API) if there was a webhook for profile updates.

From there, you can determine the criteria for which fields need to be complete (like Avatar) and automate whatever action you want to gamify it: points and/or badges.

That might be a fast route to deliver minimum functionality for those of us who want this. But, ultimately, I think tools to gamify profile updates will lead to better profiles and better user data.

@Sebastian, do you happen to have any updates on this front? We are newer CC customers and would love to know where this stands.

Hi Molly! In the meantime, it’s a bit manual, but we created custom roles, and have an automation set up to do a check daily for anyone who meets the role criteria (which is profile fields complete). From there, the role is toggled on and users get a verified badge at the bottom of their profile image. (Without the automation, you have to check daily, but it’s as easy as a segment search and then bulk role change).

Having this functionality be native within CC (no workarounds required) would be fantastic. Can definitely see having a verified badge be something we’d want to consider, @beatriz.winn

@LuH Curious how you were able to do this? Is the automation just in the badge setup?

I built a role based on profile information completion. Then, I created tiers of members based on role assignment, and if their profile was completed they receive a verified badge that sits at the bottom corner of their profile image.

@LuH Thank you for giving us the idea and impulse! Using your explanation I built the following setup without using automation:

  1. Create a new badge “Profile completed” as a manual badge
  2. Create a new segment
  3. Filter → Individually select each user profile field and set each to “(is) not empty”
    1. In our case we have seven profile fields
  4. Filter → Badges → Is not one of “Profile completed”
  5. Save the segment as “User Profile Completed”
  6. Open the the segment (e.g. daily)
  7. Select all users from the list
  8. Bulk “Award badge” → “User Profile Completed”

That’s a great solution / workaround!

One thing I haven’t found a solution for: Monitoring, if the user has uploaded a profile picture / avatar.

Also, the downside is that the badge isn’t awarded in real-time, which isn’t the best user experience - and it needs to be done manually, which isn’t the best CM experience. So we will look into the automation solution.

Is this automation with Zapier or some other tool? The badge grant in Gainsight doesn’t provide fields for profile activity, just activity like Replies and Topics, so I’m stuck after creating a custom role and badge 😅

No, it’s within Gainsight but it’s linked to ranks. In every rank I have 2 versions -- one as verified and one as not verified.

I have the rank title and rank icon with my verified ranks (this is my little checkmark for completing the profile) and with the not verified version, there is no icon. So, everyone gets a rank and only those with profile completion role (I called it “Verified”) gets the icon. Settings: turn on “User has all of the selected user roles: “Verified”]

Does that make sense?

@bjoern_schulze  @Gcheung  -- and to bjoern’s point, it is not automatic. I still have to add new people to the segment every day. We’re working on an automation for this though, and it should be simple enough.
