Currently it is possible for registered users to follow a topic and to get email notifications about new comments. We would like to offer anonymous users the same functionality.
An anonymous user currently needs to register and setup notifications before he/she can get notified about new activity in a topic that interests them. Only a very small percentage of users actually do that. Most users move on and are never to be seen again. By offering them a quick and easy way to follow a topic, they have the benefit of getting automatic updates about it and the company gets a potential new user that would otherwise have been lost.
We propose that for anonymous users the “Favorite” button gets replaced by “Get email updates”. On click a small text field opens to enter the email address. After the double-opt-in the anonymous user gets a notification email about new comments (or about the solution) - just like a registered user.
