Community notification centre for likes, mentions, quoted replies, poll votes, best answers

Our super users are asking for a new piece of community functionality - a destination notification centre which collates all activity in which they’ve been mentioned, received a like, been quoted in a reply, had someone vote in their poll, had someone choose their reply as a Best Answer.

This is for highly engaged members who are too active for email notifications - it fills up their inbox.

What they need is a notification centre within the community itself where they can check all the recent posts which affects them. It could possibly form part of a user’s profile page?

This thing is a must. My mailbox is overwhelmed by messages, and I cannot turn them off, because I must keep tracking on what’s happening on the forums.

There is one thing I think anyone havent pointed yet:

It is important to know where/how you have got points. At the moment you just see that okay, I have got more points but you dont know why you have got them.

When platform has a notification center you see that someone have liked your post and because of that you have got more points. Also you can see what post someone have liked.

At the moment you are kinda blind.

Our super users brought this up the other day and I wanted to add my own thought process.

My addition to this idea would be to simply put a number in the profile pic for unviewed activity like replies, mentions, etc. There’s a number for the DMs and when you click the profile it shows how many unread vs read messages you have. It would be cool to open that up to the other areas and add a count for the subscribed posts.

Our members referred to how Facebook notifies users of activity like others mentioned in this thread.
