Hi everyone,

We had a customer reaching out to us regarding the inactive dropdown values still showing in the report builder.

This might cause confion to users who are not clear on which ones are active and inactive.

Is there anyway we can actually exclude these inactive values from report builder instead of renaming them as inactive?

Please share your thoughts.

@rvinny Thanks for sharing it here. I will check with the product team on this behaviour in the new Report Builder.

Hiding inactive values is not a good option because that will eliminate the capability to filter inactive records to modify values.

Instead one approach to solve this problem might be to visually distinguish it in the dropdown (Make them gray and subtle maybe). @rvinny  would this solve the problem?

@rakesh  I think that is a great way to differentiate between active and inactive values.  @alison_kaprielian Could you check if this would work?

Hi All,

I have added this to the backlog. Will increase the priority if more customers face this challenge.

I would also add to a sorting option where active items appear higher in the dropdown list than inactive items. I’ve tried re-ordering them but that didn’t seem to be the magic.

Another area where this is causing confusion is in Dashboard global filters. If sorting was possible, it would be a great improvement as we have executive dashboards with global filters based on dropdown lists.

Hi All,

I have added this to the backlog. Will increase the priority if more customers face this challenge.

I think there are situations where you may still want to ignore the inactive values. We have a field, CS Engagement Model, that is used for our segmentation. We have changed from our prior values to a completely new set of values. We now see all of our old values in the drop down but have not credible use case for displaying them.

I understand there are situations you may want to display them and would definitely want them to be distinguishable but there are valid scenarios where we absolutely do not want them to be visible.

Are there any updates on this? Today I noticed that inactive dropdown values are also appearing in Gainsight Home global filters which will cause confusion, especially since these “inactive” values can still be clicked on when using the filter. Please either remove inactive values from appearing across the system or let us delete them from Data Management.

My issue with this is the inconsistency…

In the report header filters, the inactive values appear as normal:

Yet, in the main filter criteria, the inactive values are greyed-out:

What was the design/UX rationale here for making them appear disabled in one section of reports but not the other?

I agree - this issue IS causing a lot of confusion for staff, having “inactive” dropdown values appearing in Gainsight Home global filters.  Especially since these “inactive” values can still be clicked on when using the filter.

I added a Filter to the report to try and exclude Inactive values from the i.e., Exec Leadership Sponsor field, but that did not work as the “inactive” values still appear and can be clicked on when using the filter.

Need the ability to either:

  • Remove Inactive values.
  • Delete the Inactive values from Data Management.

i.e., I added an Exec Leadership Sponsor Last Name incorrect, so now it is in the drop-down list with the incorrect and correct spelling.

Thank you,

Di

I’m running into this lately too. At the very least I think we should have consistency with how inactive users look - grayed out. Can’t product at least do that for inactive values in the Report Builder? Anything would be better than how it is now where we can’t distinguish active vs. inactive.
