Gainsight does not allow the following for Standard/System fields:

  • Editing the name
  • Hiding
  • Adding a description
  • Deleting

This is restrictive and annoying enough, but especially so for “Industry,” which has two separate Standard fields, one that’s a string and one that’s a dropdown list.

Our org briefly used the string one and then moved to the dropdown list. Once in a while, we need to allow leadership to build reports in Gainsight or Data Analysts to access our data via API, and we have no way to make it easy to let them know which is the correct Industry field to use. This is a classic “Admin Quality of Life” issue. If I could simply hide, edit (perhaps add a “DON’T USE” prefix to the deprecated one), or even delete the out-of-use field, it would help deflect the inevitable questions and lost efficiencies we regularly face when it comes to this field. Please consider fixing this.

100% one of those small things that causes a disproportionate amount of work/explanation when end-users unknowingly use the incorrect field that, for how it is displayed, seems perfectly correct and intuitive.
