Report spam from the private messages

Hi @Marion Frecaut , I assumed users could report inappropriate content received via private message. Is that no possible at all? That leaves people very vulnerable, I see this as a must have health and safety feature as opposed to a nice to have. 

It is only possible to report content like topics and comments. Unfortunately there is no way to report private messages or (maybe even more important) user accounts.

I know @bjoern_schulze , it’s concerning. A safe community is a healthy community and this is the kind of functionality that is vital to make online communities safe. 

It looks like this might be on the radar. I just spotted a new design idea that’s requesting feedback.

I was going to comment on this idea, but I’ve already gone ahead and left a huge reply on the other post, so I won’t duplicate that over here as well.

The feature does seem to exist per this example on the OVO Forum (I obviously cancelled this report and didn’t send it of course!):

But I seem to recall it was enabled as a private beta for us initially at my request because apparently I could do that back in the day despite just being a user (long story but I had a fun reputation with inSided!). I’m pretty sure this is something that can be enabled on request IIRC.

I found that I received a spam private message on this platform and, unlike on our OVO Forum platform, there was no way to report it!

Just added my upvote to this idea being implemented here - we’d obviously want to let Gainsight know of known scammers potentially taking advantage of the community here.

This is definitely still needed! We have a private, closed community and just ran into an issue with a new member embarking on a mass DM spam campaign. There are no tools that would have prevented or alerted me to this, I only found out when several members posted about it in one of our forums and then had to run an export in order to identify the culprit.  I saw in another thread that this was a beta feature 3 years ago and wonder what ever happened to it.

​@Kenneth R any chance of having the beta enabled for communities that seem to be actively under attack? I don’t recall it ever ending?

Jup, we had a few users the past week who said they received spam via private messages.

It is concerning that the spam filter doesn’t monitor private messages and there is no way for users to report them. This is a big safety gap and loophole for bad actors. 

Please consider prioritizing this Gainsight!

The ability to report spam and abusive content directly from private messages is both a moderation workflow improvement and a community safety issue, and we're actively evaluating it as part of broader private messaging improvements. We'll keep this thread updated as we learn more.
