Search improvements - additional sort and filter options

There are a couple of improvements that our community (and our team) would like to see for the search options:

  1. Sorting results (eg by date, most liked, etc)
  2. Additional filters (eg solved, date range

Sorting results

Being able to sort by different factors would make it a lot easier for members to find posts that are useful for them. For example, date and most likes would be really helpful in allowing folks to hone in relevant topics. Both of those sort options are available for comments, so it would make a lot of sense to add them to the search results too.

Filters

The big one here would be whether a question has been answered. There’s a couple of use cases for this: if you’re a member with a similar question and you only want to see questions with an answer or if you’re a member who wants to help others with questions relating to specific topics (eg if you’re an expert in something/have particular skills and you want to find folks that need help with questions aligned with your knowledge).

Other useful filters would be:

  • Author type (eg Member, moderator, user role/ranks)
  • Within a date range (eg last month)

Those options would allow members to easily find the content that’s relevant to them.

P.S. Another option could be to use Google search style operators to filter results, if that fits in your roadmap better.

Hello @danvers thanks a lot for posting this idea. I totally agree with you, these extra sorting and filtering options would make a lot of sense. I'll keep this idea open to gather some votes :)

+1!

I’d also like to see the ability to Search within a specific category only!

I’d also like to be able to filter search by author. Some of our users who do not have access to Control are asking for this!

I wish search displays preview from the results as well. To see does the result match or not.

Any news here?

Is there any news regarding the progress of the research, please? Our community is requesting this improvement; we have many topics, and sorting by date would be highly appreciated.
Thank you for your help.

It’s very hard to believe that the ability to sort any view by Title is not available. Every column should be sortable and filterable, in my opinion.

We also need this feature for our community. In some sections, the most relevant articles are the newest, so sorting by date would be a great start!

I also would like to see this feature in the product. Make the sorting rules adjustable.

Adding my vote here - we are repeatedly having complaints from users about the lack of search functionality and filtering to ‘Most Recent’ is the most requested feature.

Intelligent search functionality is essential to facilitate access to crowd sourced knowledge, support case deflection, and peer-to-peer success.  I see this idea is 4 years old.  I hope we see some more investment in this by Gainsight.  How about an AI summary in search that points member to answered questions, for example, prioritizing the most recently answered question?  Imagine what that would do for the “Unique Visitors who Viewed Help Content” self-service metric!

We continue to receive user feedback requesting the addition of this search feature.

This need, perceived as a basic sorting option by our customers, creates friction in their daily usage.
Implementing it would significantly improve search efficiency and reduce the frustration and confusion caused by the absence of what is considered an essential sorting capability.

Thanks

We have also received feedback from our users that the search does not provide relevant results, which makes it hard to find what they are looking for, and some of them have even given up using the community because of that. It would be useful if the search would provide results first from the section that you are doing the search in; for example, if you are searching in product updates, pressing enter for full search results would untick the “product update” selection from the search filter options, which is not the best user experience.

I totally agree. We are facing the same feedback in our community and adding this feature would be very beneficial for our user experience.

The most simplistic functionality is missing from search. It has been 4 years since this request was created. I do hope this gets addressed.

Our community is over 15 years old and consistently gives incorrect search results and pushed things from 10+years ago to the top. Its time to address this glaring issue.

Although the improvements for search are very nice, it's such a shame that basic filtering options like sorting on date are still not here.

We are receiving the same feedback as @Ilona @juliaw and not jut from customers but internal usrs.

Users looking for exact titles of topics are not finding said topics.

I understand that ranking by relevance takes priority over ranking by date, and allowing to sort by date is not always the best way to go. But a date filter and even more of a pipe dream, ability to adjust ranking.

I would want to prioritize Knowledge base content for support use cases.

Prioritize content type by custom role. i.e. out of our 5 products a users in product A should see preferential results based on Product A.

Algolia is capable !
