It would be great if we could comment/thread on specific answers without quoting them. Sometimes the comment is for the original poster and sometimes the comment is directed to someone who answered the question. It’s important to clean this up to keep everything from being 1 long thread visually.

Love it. A more effective UI and threaded experience would be great.

Hello @cbeac2432 thanks for creating this idea. This would be a major UX change on our platform and could pose a lot of questions. For instance what happens to the replies if the reply starting the thread is deleted. Nevertheless I will leave this idea open to see if it gets any votes :)

@Marion Frecaut - thanks! The community we are migrating to Insided from had a ‘comment’ option under each question or answer post so this is something our community is expecting.Threading is pretty standard in any forum (Reddit/Slack/Stack Overflow etc) and all handle it slightly differently. Would certainly make discussions more easy to read/understand instead of having a single thread for every post/topic created.

The following idea has been merged into this idea:

Agree with @cbeac2432 and @Scott Baldwin - the ability to comment under a reply would make it a more cohesive experience. For example, we have a thread for introductions and welcomes, and you have to scroll down so far (sometimes to a different page), just to see where I’ve responded to someones original comment. It would be great if there’s an option where you can just respond to someone’s reply directly without all the scrolling around.

Agreeing for us too

Use case ex: we have created private groups with small groups of customers to manage their involvement in alpha features with our product team - we have created pinned posts on different aspects of the functionality being built but there are multiple conversations relevant within a single post (ie with different people giving feedback/ ideas and replies with the product manager) and it gets hard to follow, even with quoting above posts. PM has to share 2-3 replies in a row and looks messy and hard to follow.

I dont like this at all.

Why? Because if you want to follow the whole discussion you have to keep scrolling all the pages all the time, to see where the new comments are. This is more difficult when discussions are looooong.

If inSided decided to build this, please let as to choose use threading or not. If possible let us to choose this in category level as well.

We soft launched a couple of weeks ago and already had users give the lack of threading/ complex replying feedback for improvement. There is limited I can do but promote looking through to the last comment.

@Sudhanshu any view to advancing this idea?

@Alistair FIeld This was in the product vision and long term road map last April, so I recently asked my CSM about it.

(With all standard roadmap caveats applying...) My notes say that it’s penciled in as a H2 possibility for this year. Which is where it was last year.

I know there was some initial discovery and conceptual design of this in November 2023, but I imagine it’s a lot easier to do in figma than to change your whole UI and post architecture.

I’ll believe this one is coming when I see it actually in beta...

As said, I hope as a admin I can choose is threading on/off.
