Timeline Pinning should NOT require Timeline Editing Permissions

Hi,

This new feature is virtually unusable because it is dependent on Access Permissions Timeline Edit Activity enablement. I cannot afford to give hundreds of users access to edit ALL Timelines just so they can pin important activities. 

The permissions for pinning should mimic the permissions for cloning. Meaning, the toggle ON/OFF button in Timeline General Settings should control if pinning is allowed globally. Just like how it works for Cloning. These are enabled in the same place so should behave in the same way.

If your intention was to allow flexibility for permission bundles, then make it its own permission.

Forcing people to somehow know they need to go into Permissions for one over the other is not a good user experience.

    This is a bit swing and a miss that could have been spotted a mile away, and was likely implemented because it was easier to do, without much consideration on the usability impact it would have. If adoption of pinned Timeline activities seems low, consider this exhibit A.

    Yeah, I can’t roll this out like this.  I like the feature, but not worth it if we have to give edit permissions to users to use it.

    +1 to this! Coupling Pin Activity directly to Edit Activity permissions creates a major security and data integrity risk.

    Requiring full edit access just to pin an item forces admins into an impossible "all-or-nothing" trade-off: expose historical data to accidental edits across all timelines, or abandon the pin feature entirely  (I bet most if not all of us are in the second group!).

    Separating these permissions, as Amanda suggested, is essential for actual adoption.

      100%; opening Timeline edit functionality to our general user base would be a nightmare. We definitely won’t be enabling this feature until Gainsight provides a separate permission set for this.

        Our users can’t even pin the Timeline entries they created.
