Currently a notification will be sent when you have read a topic and a new reply is posted. But if you miss that reply for some reason, you don't get a new notification when someone else replies after.

Would it be possible to have a setting to add a timer (for example a couple of weeks) so there will be a new notification if a new reply is posted after a while?

This is good idea, although I think the best is that you get all the notifications all the time, no matter do you read the topic or not. This is how subscriptions should work.

If you think it is spamming you can always unsubscribe the topic.

Hi! We’re planning to rework this functionality so you and your users won’t miss any emails. Right now, you can already read the reply in your email, which doesn’t encourage you to open the actual topic and basically reset the notifications. The reason we’re not inclined to simply send an email notification for each reply after your own reply, is that this has led to unwanted user behaviour (eg. users marking multiple reply emails from the same thread as spam, unsubscribed to ALL reply notifications, etc.).

Having said that, what we’re considering on the short term, is:

  • The topic poster will receive all replies
  • For others, opening the system email with the reply will mark the reply as read, and reset the notifications

Would love to hear your feedback on this.

Both examples you mention are possible options. The one I mentioned in the first post would also be nice, maybe with a customizable period?
