Understanding how users engage with your Gainsight instance is essential for driving customer success and optimizing adoption. Even if you don’t have access to Gainsight 360, you can still gain valuable insights into user activity and feature usage through User Login History and GS Asset Usage Tracking objects.

  1. Tracking User Login History

The User Login History object helps you monitor how users interact with Gainsight by capturing detailed login data. This enables you to identify “healthy active users” and measure engagement trends across your user base.

Key Metrics to Track:

  • Login Counts: Total number of times users log into the system.
  • Multiple Logins: Includes multiple logins per day, providing a more complete view of engagement.

How to Use It:

  • Explore the Gainsight User Object:
    Access the Gainsight User object in your data system to view detailed login records.
  • Build Custom Reports:
    Create reports that align with your customer success metrics, such as daily or weekly active users.
    Pro Tip: Consider counting unique daily logins to avoid inflation from repeated logins.
  • Analyze Historical Data:
    Examine at least the last three months of data to identify trends, spikes, or drops in user activity.
  1. Tracking GS Asset Usage

GS Asset Usage Tracking provides asset-level insights into how often specific features, reports, cockpits, etc. are used. This helps product and CS teams understand which assets deliver the most value and where adoption efforts can be improved.

Key Metrics to Track:

  • Usage Frequency: How often a specific asset or feature is accessed.
  • Segmentation: Break down data by variables like report name, dashboard ID, or user group.

How to Use It:

  • Access the Asset Tracking Feature:
    Review usage data, including asset names, IDs, and frequency of access.
  • Create Visualizations:
    Build charts or dashboards to visualize engagement trends. Consider adding drill-downs to view user-level interactions.
  • Apply Time-Based Filters:
    Use the Last Use Timestamp field to focus on specific time ranges and track adoption over time.
  • Use Conditional Formatting and Aggregations:
    Apply visual cues (e.g., highlight metrics above a threshold in green) and aggregate data to uncover deeper insights.
