We’ve released a brand-new moderation overview in public betafor all community managers and admins. Moderators can also access the beta if your community manager has opted you in.
The moderation overview is getting an overhaul, both in terms of design and capabilities.
New filtering options, editable custom views, refresh without reloading the page, and an improved design
Read on to find out what’s available right now and for whom, learn about the next steps and planned items, and find out how you can contribute to improving the new moderation overview.
What’s already available in the new moderation overview?
The following capabilities are available in the new moderation overview:
Save, edit, and share custom views.
Improved page load times and a quick refresh button to reload the topic stream without reloading the whole page.
Improved filtering UX and an improved title/content keyword search.
New filters, including: relative time filters for last active/publish date, filter by ideation status, and a multiselect filter for moderator tags.
As an administrator/community manager, you can opt-in to allow your entire moderation team to participate in the moderation overview beta. Just click the ‘enable for team option’ and flick the switch on our new experimental features page.
We’ve done this based on early feedback that we’re still lacking key features in the new overview, and that it would add complexity for larger moderation teams to have the beta suddenly available for the entire moderation team.
Of course, we couldn’t build these improvements without all the fantastic input from our community - so here’s a couple of shout outs to those who inspired us with their ideas.
We have no short-term plans or a set date on which we’ll get rid of the old moderation overview.
Our ambition is to provide a better set of capabilities and a better design on the new moderation overview, and eventually phase out the old moderation overview, based on your feedback and usage.
How can you contribute and help us build a great moderator experience?
We’ll use this topic as a megathread to collect feedback from you and to provide updates on new features/changes as we iterate over the new moderation overview further.
We’ve included a feedback button on the beta overview page in Control, which takes you directly to this topic.
We’re excited to hear your first impressions!

We will for now not activate the new moderation overview to all moderators due to the “moderation status” that isn’t included yet. The chance of mistakes happening while testing are too high and our moderators could lose important information when they accidentally trigger the moderation status without seeing it in the overview.
Thanks for all your feedback @aluciani !
I’m seeing the following - no name added.
I can’t recall if that is something you folks are looking into or this is a new bug.
This is something we’re aware of and need to fix - but thanks for bringing another example to our attention!
I also noticed the date get cut off here - Something to check out
Good spot - thanks for reporting it :).
If I delete a reply how quickly before the name will disappear from the overview? or is this a bug? I’ve noticed some names have been removed and some not even after removing replies.
This is another case we need to look into - thanks again for reporting it!
Thanks for your feedback @Suvi Lehtovaara!
@daniel.boon the suggestions for the “Assigned moderators” are incorrect in our view. Several users on this list are banned users Actually, most of our active moderators are not on that list
Uh oh - that’s not good! We show the first 25 moderators that we can find, but indeed I see that there are some banned users showing up, which is not good! If you search you should be able to find the active moderators, but we’ll look into making sure you get an accurate list first of all.
@Patomiäs tested this new overview while moderating our community. There are some things that we would like to point out:
the new overview seems to be rather unstable. We saw several topics in which, the user name of the last comment was incorrect, sometimes even some topics that had new comments were not visible in this overview.
Autorefresh is not working at all times.
The filter “less than 1 replies” is not <1 replies but is ≤1 replies. This is relevant as our moderators go through topics that have no answers. And with a large community, seeing also topics with 1 reply slows you down a bit
We would like to be able to filter “Unanswered questions” = all Question-typed topics that have not been marked a best answer.
1) sounds similar to Angelo’s feedback above - so this is something we’ll look into for sure.
Do you have any more specifics about 2) Autorefresh is not working at all times?
3) is something we fixed a week or so ago I believe, so it should work as expected now :).
4) Clear!
@daniel.boon It seems that the oldest topics in the new overview are from September 2017. Is there a reason why?
For us as an older community it would be important to have visibility to older topics as well. We had one case where a spam bot left a reply to a topic from 2017 - this was not visible in the new overview
Good spot - it looks like one of the implications of a recent technical upgrade was that the total number of topics shown in the overview became capped at 10,000. This is something we’re still looking into, but indeed the ambition to make the overview a place where you can filter on ALL of your content rather than a subset of it.
We will for now not activate the new moderation overview to all moderators due to the “moderation status” that isn’t included yet. The chance of mistakes happening while testing are too high and our moderators could lose important information when they accidentally trigger the moderation status without seeing it in the overview.
Clear feedback Björn, thanks! This is certainly on our backlog to bring into the new overview, and I hope we’ll be able to make you feel able to throw the switch for your moderators to use the new overview in the coming weeks.
I like the new criteria bar, which is much more user friendly.
One suggestion : Ability to filter topics per user role.
This would allow to have pre-configured filters per groups of users.
Thanks for the feedback @narcisse.zekpa :)! What would be your use case for filtering per user role & do you have any examples?
New overview looks a bit messy with all the columns showing up. Any way to reduce the columns shown or did I miss it? I also need to scroll to see a the columns.

Hey @aluciani - thanks for your feedback!
We’re actively working on a ‘choose columns to display’ feature as well as a more responsive table design, which should help you keep things tidy and make it easier to browse the columns on the overview.
Here’s an update on the latest features we’ve released for the new moderation overview:
Never miss a post: sort and filter by ‘unread by team’ (renamed from ‘Status’ on the old overview).
Customise columns to display, and save those in your custom views.
New filters: best answer (yes/no), unread by team.
Sort by publish date.
Improved table design, also with responsive horizontal scroll when you’ve got a lot of columns on display.
Let us know what you think of the improvements!
Alright, I have been playing around with the beta overview and here is what i got so far. Haven't read all the replies here so sorry if I'm repeating others.
There needs to be a overview of all new topics which haven't been assigned to a mod. Currently not possible with the filters. Crucial for us. (but on the back log as I understand it)
Getting soms errors when I try to change a filter, of when I try to save as a different one. (probably why it's a beta)
There needs to be a column for the labels. Currently there isn't one.
Overall I'm linking it. Takes some getting used to though.
Thanks for your feedback @Paul_ !
We saw those errors pop up on our side too - the underlying issue has now been fixed and you should be able to save filters without any problems 🙂.
I think the new overview brings in content that I have deleted. I had selected specific criteria - have others seen this or am I missing something?

Hey @Paul_ - quick update, moderation label is now available in the columns :)
Hi @daniel.boon. I’d love to be able to filter posts by user(name).
Why: To apply multiple filters to find all posts by one user that fit certain criteria – for example, all of one user’s replies, all of one user’s posts in a specific category or group.
Goal: To see behavior patterns (positive or negative) that can be referenced when communicating with a community member.
Hi again. 🙂 All the posts that I have trashed are still showing in the new Overview, even after refreshing. I have one filter set, to view all posts in a specific category. I’d expect that once I’ve trashed posts that were originally published in that category that they would no longer appear in the Overview.
@daniel.boon why can’t I add the moderation labels as a column at the new moderation overview?
Edit: Sorry, ^^ I found it
BR Thomas

Thanks for the feedback / clear idea @LPortalupi! Around how many users do you communicate with, and how often, where checking this information beforehand would be helpful? :)

@LPortalupi thanks for reporting this - we’re working right now on some fixes to ensure that the new overview is always 100% up to date - this should be covered in those fixes :)
@josh-sp@Paul_ - it’s now possible to filter on topics which do not have a moderator assigned :)

I'm trying to recreate the current filters with the new ones, but I'm seeing some inconsistencies. Some purged topics show up in the ‘unassigned’ filter. When I clink on it, I obviously get “page not found...”. Maybe there's a delay or something because it's a beta?

Hey @Paul_ - quick update, moderation label is now available in the columns :)
Nice. Would also be great if we could sort them by label (like publish date etc.). :)
This has probably already been said, but I would love the freedom to decide the order of the columns.
Hey @Paul_,
Thanks for the feedback around labels/deciding the order of the columns. Any particular reason you’d like to sort by label?
Also thanks for reporting the issue around purged topics
The issue was related to some of the other reports we’ve had in this topic about data not being 100% up to date in the new overview.
These issues have our full attention/top priority to resolve at the moment - I’m glad to say we’ve just deployed a change that means any trashed/deleted topics should immediately disappear from the new overview.
So @Paul_@LPortalupi@aluciani Please let me know if you run into any trashed topics appearing in the new overview → we’re confident this should be working as expected now 🙂.

So we use the labels to mark which topics still need our attention. And it's just way easier when they're all nicely sorted and don't have to scroll through several pages to see if you missed any.

As for the purged topics, we’ve identified the issue (topics converted to replies aren’t disappearing) and we’re working on a fix - thanks for the example topics!

It seems that we’re experiencing this as well. @daniel.boon and @aluciani
What happened is, that a topic from November 2019 appeared on top of the moderation view, unread by moderator column stated “new topic”. This topic has no replies, no tags etc.
We assume that this is a deleted topic as there is an identical topic in another category, with replies and tags. (And our moderator has not mentioned moving this topic from a category to another, so we suspect that this was a duplicate in a wrong category).
