If you educate learners in more than one language, you've probably noticed the gap: your training site is localized, but the some of the emails Skilljar sends: password resets, verification links, and invitations, don’t always show up in their preferred language.

Skilljar now sends four key account emails in your learner's language instead of defaulting to English:

  • Password reset
  • Email verification
  • Email change confirmation
  • Enrollment and domain invitations

This feature is on by default. As long as your training site lists the languages you offer, these emails will automatically send in each learner's preferred language. See below for how our system decides which language to use.

How Skilljar Chooses the Language

Skilljar’s system picks the language for each email using the first of these it recognizes:

  1. The learner's saved language preference: This functionality was released earlier this year and allows your learners to choose their preferred directly on your training site. Once set, it's remembered and used in the localized emails listed above.
  2. The language they're actively using on your site: This only applies to the email change confirmation, since that's the one email sent while the learner is browsing.
  3. Your organization's default language: The primary language in the priority order you established when you set up your languages. This is the fallback when the first two aren't available.

What's Not Changing

  • Course emails: Registration confirmations, completion emails, and VILT reminders are not part of this release and behave exactly as they do today.
  • No additional email changes: These are Skilljar-provided translations of the standard email templates currently available.
