We are not using the Salesforce to Gainsight integration so our engagement analytics do not look good. Is anyone else calculating engagement metrics manually? Are you using page views? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hi @baraica - the Salesforce integration does give you the handy MAC (Monthly Active Customers) score, which is cool because it gives you a company-level view of engagement i.e. “this month we engaged 5% / 10% / 40% of our customers”. But without that out-of-the-box view, you can still create some powerful metrics and views that offer similar types of insight.  For example:

  • Unique Visitors.  As a starting point, this is a good foundational absolute number.  It’s not exactly the number of unique people you’ve engaged (due to the intricacies of devices, cookies, etc...) but it’s in that ballpark.  I typically use this one more than page views.
  • Visitors vs Customers.  As an alternative to the native MAC score, you could create a metric where you simply track the number of monthly visitors against your total number of customers (companies) on a monthly basis.  It’s not exactly the same but it’s very simple and is a great indication to track over time.
  • Visitors by Channel.  Another great one you can consider is a ‘channel distribution’ view where you compare visitors across community, education, support, etc…  A powerful lens here is if you also include transactional channels like support tickets.  Over time you can then see how the distribution across digital and human channels is evolving.

Under engagement you of course also have all the basic metrics like registrations and posts, but the above ones are the interesting ‘top-level’ kind of metrics I’ve found most helpful.  It’s also possible to get a lot more advanced, but I personally have always gravitated to views that are simple and helpful.

Alternatively, you can take the export for logins and create your own :) The only thing you would be missing is each client's pageviews, which seems to be a unique stat only available in the engagement section.
