Hi everyone,

As the title notes, is there a way to make an Ideation section view-only (so users aren’t able to comment or upvote) for logged out users? We have this configuration for the other areas of our community but aren’t able to get it for our Ideas section, leaving it as an exclusive area for registered users, creating a friction point and potentially contributing to registration drop off.

Thanks!

Howdy @kristineo ,

By default, unregistered users should NOT be able to interact with the Community at all anyway, beyond viewing whatever you make public. The Unregistered role doesn’t have anything beyond View-Only permissions by default. The same applies to registered users who are logged out - they’ll be treated as Unregistered and prompted to log in if they try to interact with the community beyond viewing stuff.

Did one of your team maybe play with the settings by any chance?

It seems you’ve currently got Ideation locked down. If you want to make it publicly visible, grant View permissions to the Unregistered role and that should do the trick.

@kristineo  Updating the settings under Platform → Ideation → Permissions in the Community Control to look something like this should do the trick:

Thanks all! I should’ve added that we have another layer to this where we have custom roles for vetted and non-vetted users (our team has a mechanism to review profiles upon registration and that’s tied to write/voting permissions). Not all registered users are vetted, so we want those custom roles to override the default “Registered User” role.

In other words:

At Registration, users are assigned either Custom Role A or Custom Role B

  • Vetted (OK to post/participate): Custom Role A
  • Non-vetted (not allowed to post/participate): Custom Role B

In Ideas, because it seems like it’s “all or nothing,” we’re trying to see if there’s a way to only allow Registered, Vetted users to participate, but Registered, Non-vetted users only view.

In an ideal state, the ideas permissions would be done by action, similar to how it is for the other areas of the forum so we have that flexibility.

Hmm, I don’t think that’s possible at the moment indeed. I’m afraid that the only option here is to create a Product Idea on this community 😀
