Hello!

I’ve recently been through some sporadic JO issues, made worse because it took a few days for me to realize what was happening. While it’s my strong opinion that something like JO needs to be as close to 100% reliable as possible, I do understand that things happen on the backend that are bound to cause issues from time to time.

Allowing for the possibility that something unexpected can always impact even as established JO, I think the next best step in mitigating disruption would be to introduce admin-configurable alerting on JO Programs similar to the alerting already in place for Rules and Data Designer.

Conditions for the alerts would need to be tweaked for the subject matter - maybe something like…

  • Participant enters “X” Status (configurable by admin)
  • Program sends 0 emails
  • Program execution fails
  • Program execution is delayed / queued

These alerts would all apply to actual situations I’ve faced in the past, and in each instance my response would’ve been more timely with a simple email alert. Obviously not every admin is going to want an alert every time a Participant hits “Completed” Status, but having the flexibility to tick off each Status when configuring this alert might make testing or monitoring new content more convenient. I’m personally most interested in using “System Error” as an alerting condition.

@TMaier hit the nail on the head.

I’ve been seeing an uptick in “system error” participant failures recently -- both in our org, and coming through in GGA Slack community comments. We shouldn’t have to manually check every active program -- that’s not scalable.

Moreover, every instance of a participant erroring out of a program degrades trust in JO. Both from admin perspectives, and from other teams within our organizations. We expect participants who qualify for a program to complete the journey.

This post is similar and you should consider upvoting it as well, but I wanted to outline some specific conditions outside the % of failures topic. I think we’re all on board with an alert for that, but to Dayn’s point: 1 unexpected failure is too many - by the time we’re talking % failures the ship is already sinking.
