I think the only thing missing in the current Manual badge template is the option of also rewarding some points.

@anirbandutta I like this idea but I’m curious: why would you limit this to manual badges?

I’d want this for all badges. Just set a number of points associated to a badge, and whenever it is rewarded to a member, they also earns that number of points.

@SmartlyGreg Thank you, absolutely; at least there should be a capability to on the UI for all badges.

Wondering if others have created other ways of doing this currently, could you share your process, are you using a zap?

Thanks @anirbandutta

@DannyPancratz is the Insided Superman and has helped me with a few things.  I was able to set up a Zap integration with our LMS (Thinkific) so every time a course is completed they get a badge and points in community. I can share my Zap steps if anyone needs as I had a few hiccups.

For manual badges, this isn’t a trigger in the API. Support just got back to me - I will need to use a Zap with a webhook. Here are the Zap steps:

  1. Webhook - to listen to the badge endpoint
  2. Filter for specific badges via ID or name, otherwise whenever a badge happens (auto or manual) they'll get points from number 3.
  3. inSided - Assign points API

Well done, @KellyBebenek !

If others are looking to do something similar, you subscribe to this webhook event for badge earned: https://api2-us-west-2.insided.com/docs/#yipuserbadgeearned

OR what I do for my use case is that I often assign the badge and the points via a Google Sheet, rather than in Control. But that was before I knew about that webhook event. But if you’re doing a lot of these, and have a list of emails, it can be easier to trigger via a google sheet, rather than looking each user up in control.

Here are how most of my Manual Badge + Points work with Zapier

  1. Trigger on update/new row to Google sheet
  2. API Action - Looks up user to get user Id (n/a if you already know the user ID
  3. Assign Badge
  4. Assign Points
  5. Update the Google sheet with API responses (“ok” to show it was successful)
