Home page widget that displays categories rather than parent categories. In the early days of a community the number of categories are small and it’s hard to bring attention to them. And as a community grows it would be helpful to bring attention to key categories without having to hack around things with quick links.

This was implemented with the new Kb by @Marion Frecaut — let’s get it extended into the community.

Hello @Scott Baldwin Thank you for the idea. We actually delivered this idea while working on the KB overview. We changed both the KB category widget and the community category widget (they are very similar technically). Both widgets can be used on the homepage :)

@Marion Frecaut the problem with the current iteration in the community is that it displays parent categories and categories, we just want categories.

@Scott Baldwin a few questions:

  • do I understand correctly that you wish NOT to display the name of the parent category above the child categories?
  • Do you have the need to showcase only specific child categories and not show all the child categories?

Correct, just categories, no parents. Would show all categories in our case, but would be great if you could also select ones you wanted displayed.

@Scott Baldwin we have this idea that is related in case you would like to vote for it

@Marion Frecaut that more related to parent vs. child categories. I have no issues with parent categories. Just want a better way to surface categories that isn’t just the tabbed content section.
