Sometimes two members of the community might have an interesting conversation via direct messages which they decide would be of wider interest. It would be nice if, with mutual agreement, they could turn it into a topic in one of the community categories. The flow could be something like this:
- Alice and Bob have been conversing through DMs
- Bob thinks that the conversation would be of wider interest, though perhaps there are a few personal details that should be redacted.
- Bob clicks a “Suggest publication” button.
- This converts the DM sequence into a topic (not yet published).
- At this point Bob also suggests a category to which the conversation will eventually be published.
- As a topic, Alice and Bob become able to edit their posts so can redact or sanitise private information.
- When Alice and Bob have both checked an “agree to publish” checkbox, the conversation goes live.
- Or, Alice can decline to publish and the conversation goes back to DMs (or maybe it’s a copy so the original private DMs remain intact throughout and the copy is deleted when Alice declines).
