Happy Monday! I was just messing around and found that the search functionality when adding new fields to a Cockpit view has something unique, and awesome, that I thought I would point out.

When searching for a lookup field by name, the search returns that field - but you can still see results under the lookup that don’t exactly match the original search. One of the beginner traps in searching for fields under a lookup is inevitably that you can’t search for the lookup by name and find other fields. Ex: you need a CSM’s name in Report Builder, so you search “CSM” and find the lookup - but you won’t find “Name” under there - your original search was explicitly for “CSM” duh!

It is super convenient to be able to search for the lookup field by name and then browse the fields. This doesn’t even conflict with a search for “Name” - that would still return any lookup with a “Name” field under it - it just fixes a small gotcha that I’m sure catches many new and experienced admins every day.

Cockpit field search for “Playbook” (intending to add the Playbook Name field”...

Same search in Report Builder…

TL;DR

  1. The search used for customizing Cockpit fields is great!
  2. Can we replicate this behavior in other areas where search terms are 100% explicit?

We absolutely need this feature parity for the search function! 💯

On a similar note, could we PLEASE get this search functionality added as well? Scrolling through a never-ending list (especially in the Calculated Fields in the new dynamic JOs) is a nightmare, even moreso when we have certain fields we use every time.
