There are two locations where displaying descriptions for categories could be extremely helpful:

  1. On the Category buttons when viewing a parent category
  2. In the Category selection area when creating a new topic

Our users often share with us that they don’t know what types of content should be posted within certain categories. We’ve created detailed descriptions and added What can I find in… posts to every category (thanks for the inspo on that one, @Julian and @Daniel  🙂), but some of our categories aren't as intuitive as others when you only have the name to go off of.

I imagine that this could function very similarly to the help text that appears to define Question, Conversation, and Idea when creating a topic. This could be really helpful for us and our users!

Categories displaying on parent category

^ here you could add an “i” icon so that users can hover to see the full description, or allow them to click a “+” to expand the card to show the description
