Currently the Events Calendar view/widget on the home page just shows a calendar icon and event title. Would be good to add the option for thumbnails (like categories) to display here.

Hi @triskaideka

To clarify, you would suggest keeping the calendar icon and add next to it a thumbnail of the event optionally, right? Ideally, the thumbnail you would like to see here is the cover of the event or a separately uploaded asset?

What would be the main difference between having this option vs adding events to a featured topic widget? Cover images would be displayed there as well.

In the meantime, we are going to open this idea for votes.

Hi @Ati Somos

I actually had in mind that you might use the calendar image as a default for events if they don’t have a thumbnail uploaded as an asset, but showing both would be okay I think.

The main difference from a generic featured topic widget would be the auto-expiring from the home page of events that are in the past.  Using the featured topic widget, this would be a manual process.  That would be especially cumbersome for a community with a high volume of events.

I was about to add this idea and glad to see this one already existing. I agree with the comments about this helping to automate curation.

What we want is something like the featured topics widget for the next X event, showcasing the event images for a better visual feel. While it can be accomplished with the featured topics widget, adding the images to this widget would help automate curation.
