Now that we are about a month into our community, I am seeing some threads that are not answered, and likely can’t be for various reasons. However, these threads have effectively died but are showing up on my list of Unanswered Questions.
What I’d like to propose is another means of closing off a topic where the thread shows as inactive but unanswered with a statement akin to “This thread is inactive, though we encourage you to respond if you’d like to continue the discussion”.
Otherwise, I’m going to keep adding to a list of threads with no “Best Answer” and the list will soon be out of control.
I’m only about a month in myself (we soft launched on Monday), so I could be wrong.
I thought the “close topic” toggle might offer that ability. You find this in control when you have the post open.
We haven’t had a use case yet, so I haven’t employed it.
If that’s not what close topic does, I need to read up on how it works. :)
P.S. Congrats on your first month live!
That did come up internally, closing a topic. As far as I know, it simply stops more replies, but that’s kind of the opposite of what I want.
I’m looking to acknowledge that a thread is essentially dead, have it removed from my ‘Unanswered’ view, while allowing a customer to see it and revive it if they have interest.
And thank you on the congrats! Definitely a great ride so far!
Thanks for sharing this idea @mstruening.
To make sure I understand: when you say list of ‘unanswered questions’, are you referring to the community destination or a list in Control?
If you’re referring to Control, I think Moderation Labels could be interesting for you.

Refering to Control. I have a Saved Filter showing any Q&A topics that do not have a Best Answer. some of these fell off the face of the earth so I want to mark them as such in Control, while showing a status to any user who views that thread.
I’ll take a look at Moderation Labels, though I’m not sure if these would still show up as unsolved to me (or more importantly, a user).
I don’t want to have these dead threads that look abandoned. At the least, I want the customer community to see that we are aware it died off.
@daniel.boon , I took a look and made a new Label called Archived. I then went to my Saved View to try to filter out those that are Archived….which won’t work. I can only show things WITH those labels….and adding a filter of everything BUT archived shows no results.
Unfortunately, this will not work (plus, my intent is also to show customers that a thread has been acknowledged as dying off, and that they should revive it by replying if desired.
Thanks for clarifying @mstruening - if the intent is to show customers the thread has be acknowledged as ‘unresolved’ by your community team, then moderation labels won’t help you indeed.
If we were to enable you to invert the moderation label filter (show all topics without ‘Archived’), then perhaps a workaround would be to use this moderation label in combination with a generic reply on the topic left by a moderator?
Possibly, but that would be a decent amount of work at scale.
For now, I’d be very happy to have that assuming there’s a better solution in the pipeline :-)
I’ll go visit the other idea (appreciate you sharing) and vote accordingly!
