Hey @DannyPancratz, I don’t think this is possible at the moment, although it would be great to have this option customisable. I do see the value for your use case.
@Cristina is our PM for the Moderation Overview - do you think this is something we could add in on control? Either for adding a new custom role permissions or an option to make all preview links available as default?
Hi @DannyPancratz! I think you’re raising a valid point in keeping the permissions selection for the preview links once selected and not to have to change it every time you’re sharing a preview with non-moderators. I converted your question into an idea so other can chime in with their votes and perspectives.
What is not entirely clear to me, is how permissions to preview a draft link relates to the use case you’re mentioning “I’d like to use a custom role to give colleagues content permissions to draft and publish within a specific forum.” as this seems like a separate request to have some sort of editorial role with less access than a normal moderator. Would you mind sharing some additional details on this?
@Cristina, You’re right about this:
this seems like a separate request to have some sort of editorial role with less access than a normal moderator. Would you mind sharing some additional details on this?
It is a bit of separate idea buried in there (I might have submitted something along those lines already). But the key part of the use case as it relates to this idea:
I could use custom roles to give them permission to just publish content. They could stay as registered. users or superusers for their primary role and I could limit their admin/moderation privileges with custom roles.
However, they wouldn’t be able to preview their articles given the current capabilities:
- only moderators and above can adjust the preview link settings
- preview link settings are unique to each article and default to only moderators+, so there’s not a way to enable non-moderators to always have the ability to preview their articles
So the current state forces me to either
A.) be a bottleneck of adjusting the preview link settings on all their articles. (not efficient and not ideal), B.) just grant them moderator permissions so they can preview via self-service (not ideal because it gives them much more access and control then they need / I want to give them)
C.) ask them to blind publish without previewing (negating the value of the preview feature)
Ultimately, they have one role: publishing content. I’d like to limit their permissions accordingly, but the preview link settings are forcing me into option B above (which presents some risk).
Thank you for the details, now it’s clear where the limitations are and the needs you have for your team! I will take this to the team and see if there is a possibility to include the “Forum moderation” permission of a custom role in the preview links permissions.
