As you may know, Email Campaigns put a limitation to the recipient list which will only target users who have been active in the last 365 days. I think this make sense, but then I feel like we we enter a loop where we keep re-engaging users who are already active...

How do you guys do to re-engage those users who haven't been active in the past 365 days?

To be honest, out community is just 5 months young so I have not run into the problem of the 365 days yet…. but I am running into the issue that I have members that created their account at the launch and since then did not login anymore… and this could also be because of:

  1. We made the conscious decision to have an ‘open’ community and only some parts are gated. But almost everything is open to read and only when you want to join in on the conversation you need to have an account. Which means that we have a lot of views on our content, and we have also heard from customers that do have an account but not login often as they can access the content already
  2. 3 months after the launch we did a first community satisfaction survey and we got some good results from that from both engaged and less engaged accounts. Most given reason why people are less engaged if because of lack of time and not always finding the content they are looking for. Our Dutch part of the community is really engaged, but the English part is less engaged because there is not enough people on there active. So in Q3 we are going to make some improvements over there… I have a colleague doing some extra research into this audience at the moment.
  3. Currently we are also running some fun Community only campaign for which we send invites to our members. For instance on May the 4th (Star Wars Day) we did some fun things where people could win prized. And now with the World Cup we are doing a World Cup Club House, with a poule, quizes and just light conversation. And these kinds of fun activities really to help to get people newly engaged.

Probably later this year I am going to have to think about this, but I do expect that we can pull some data on inactive members and use our marketing automation system to send out those emails. Hopefully by then we have also integrated both systems that we can fully automate this process.

Hey @Sanne van Opstal-Brakel yeah I think we'll have to use mailchimp to contact those inactive users..

I’ve been considering a 3rd party tool myself - i’ve found mailchimp pretty good from my previous experiences using it. Even funnelling down for further engagements from there has been pretty easy with mailchimp. Let us know how it goes @jvdc - would love to take some notes from you!
