Anyone engaging on reddit, any stories to share, successful or otherwise? Thanks

We have an unofficial sub on Reddit. My idea was to post alerts to our community when someone posted on the sub, and post alerts on the sub when something important happens on our community. Sort of tie everything together and keep everyone informed wherever they hang out.

Unfortunately, the Reddit API got a bit flaky, and randomly stopped working if it decided I was a bot, so I had to give that up. I still think it’s a worthwhile strategy, if it were reliable.

Evan Hamilton recently co-presented on this with another community leader, I believe, and likely has some materials or recordings shared if you go through his recent posts (like this) on linkedin or reach out.

He also shared this article in his bi-weekly community manager breakfast newsletter.

I got involved in Reddit forums for two extremely large organizations. We got involved in Reddit because people were already there discussing the product(s) / organization. In both instances, we came in to moderate rather than create new content.

When we moderated, we used community links to try to drive adoption from Reddit back to the community forum space.
