Hey all! Our community is looking to implement our own Super User program in 2025 and I spent Q4 researching what others have been doing. Part of that research was finding out what perks and activities others are offering in their programs. Every community is different

Perks

  1. Early access to new features and content.
  2. Exclusive badges/profile flair, not only for the community but also LinkedIn.
  3. Increased storage, upload limits, data related upgrades.
  4. Custom emojis or reactions.
  5. Priority customer support.
  6. Discounts on subscriptions, add-on products, events (some even do free tickets), training.
  7. Charity donations made in their name for super user group competitions and challenges.
  8. Unique page in community showing all super user members with tidbits of info about them.
  9. Some do a “super user of the month” post that also gets posted on LinkedIn and other channels.
  10. A private group just for super users.
  11. Ability to create and manage sub-communities or groups.
  12. Quarterly sessions with internal reps at the org (Product Management, CSM, etc).
  13. Personalized swag bag mailed out that includes a welcome packet.
  14. Holiday gift mailed with personalized note each year.
  15. Opportunities for additional swag, certifications, flair, tied to challenges set by the Community Managers.

Activities/events/challenges:

  1. Content creation contests (writing, images, video, etc) and allow members to vote on winner.
  2. Community growth contests (recruitment, mainly for open communities).
  3. Engagement contests (provide x number of “best answers” in x months but must be marked by the member who posted).
  4. Trivia contests about the community, industry, product/services, or org history).
  5. Random acts of kindness challenges.
  6. AMAs for the Community but also AMAs for super users and org execs or industry leaders.
  7. Exclusive webinars or workshops (for super users, or by super users).
  8. Game nights (could be virtual) with games like Kahoot, Scribbly).
  9. Annual awards ceremony to recognize top Super Users.
  10. Collaborative projects like hackathons.
  11. Secret buddies (experts) for groups of members who need help or are new (some offer mentorship opportunities and create groups to connect newbies with super users).
  12. Welcome committee for newbies.

I’m sure there are loads more out there, feel free to share some below!

I recognize you don’t want to the focus to be perks/rewards, but def doesn’t hurt!

Hi @Johnk,
You've already conducted comprehensive research to gather inspirational examples of perks for super user programs - love it. Here are some additional ideas:

  1. Personal Development Opportunities : Access to exclusive career development resources, like online courses, seminars, and lectures from your industry or company.

  2. Beta Testing Group : Be part of a select group with early access that gets hands-on experience with new products or features and the ability to suggest changes.

  3. Access to a VIP Lounge : Both virtual and physical, if applicable, where members can connect and network: example during your annual conference.

  4. Recognition at Company Events : Public acknowledgment during annual meetings or major company events or conference.

  5. Membership Renewal Gift : Receive a special gift when renewing your membership as a super user.

  6. Points or Rewards System : Earn points for activities, which can be redeemed for rewards or exclusive content.

  7. Job Referral Opportunities : Get early bird updates on job openings and, potentially, referral bonuses if someone they recommend gets hired.

  8. Exclusive Content Library : Access to an archive of white papers, trend reports, or research exclusive to super users.

  9. NDA Privileges : Engage in confidential discussions about upcoming projects or strategic directions with NDA agreements.

  10. Profile Spotlight : Featured in success stories or case studies, showcasing how they’ve leveraged their expertise in the community.

@Johnk - Your list (and what @Nadia Nicolai) provided are great! We’ve done a number of these things, and they work really well. In 2025, my team will be removing all rewards that are tired directly to actions. Instead, we’re leaning heavily on a lot of what you mentioned - special recognition and experiences. A few additional ideas are:

  • Cross link the customer’s personal website/blog on your community to help them get more visibility. This also validates their credibility, which helps demonstrate why they’re in the Super User program.
  • Hold non-work events for the group. We’ve done things like a virtual escape room, watching a comedian together, enjoying a dueling pianos show. Being able to get together as humans, with nothing related to work, really helps build genuine relationships with the group.
  • Welcome them to the program with a special “Congratulations” video from your CEO.
  • Monthly virtual meetups have worked REALLY well for us. This group loves that time together!
  • We also hold a separate meetup during our user conference for this group every year, and they love it. It’s special just for them, and they feel it. :)
  • Capes. Kidding...not kidding. Our group is called Jamf Heroes, so we got them capes. And you better believe they love those things! They wore them to our user conference and have them displayed in their offices. Being able to show (in a unique way) that they’re in the program is really meaningful. Adding ribbons to the bottom of their badge that also show their involvement in the program is great!

Like I said, you covered a lot of the other ideas already. It sounds like you’ll have a killer program!

Very cool, thank you @JeniA!!! I love the capes idea and I could see us doing something similar given our company culture.

@Nadia Nicolai Hi Nadia! I was hoping you could expand on points and reward systems. For points, are you awarding points based on the actions Gainsight allows (providing an answer, posting a reply, receiving a like or a vote, giving a like or upvoting an idea, and creating a topic) or is there a way to manually perk points?

Hi @aisha.barajas - Thanks for your question! The Point System, alongside all other gamification elements, is all about sparking community activity and boosting engagement. From posting and upvoting to earning a marked answer, these actions keep your community vibrant.

Could you share more about what you mean by "manual perk points"? If there are specific activities or rewards you’d like to incorporate that aren’t covered by the current system, I'd love to hear them!

Additionally, you have the option to award points to users via API, allowing you to recognize contributions outside of the community platform.

@Nadia Nicolai We would love to give points on account anniversary dates (ex: 1 year) and potentially create a daily login point system.
