Strategy for Rank Icon

Hi Community!

I’m floating an idea in my head and wanted to see if the strategy works.🤔

I have a robust rank system for our community members (customers) and we currently reserve “rank icons” for our company employees on our community. This makes them visually distinguishable from our customer base which makes up the bulk of our community forum.

I have a customer award recognition program I am rolling out and while it’s not tied to Gainsight’s ranks/leaderboard point system, I wanted to leverage something new for visuals like a ‘rank icon’ vs a community badge (as we are climbing up in quantity of badges).

My question to community is:

  1. What do you think about this strategy? I feel like its fresh and new (for our members) and sets them apart visually in our community feed vs the badges.
  2. Is there a technical limitation which is, they must have that rank in order to have that rank icon? Does that mean that it messes with my rank system already in place?

Any help/insight and feedback is appreciated. 🌱

  1. I think it’s a good idea.
    • Alternatively, you could leverage the Username icon (an option in Ranks), which shows between their username and their rank.

  2. Yes, you have to create a new, alternate version of each rank.
    • You need a new custom user role for that recognition program
    • Recreate the ranks(s) with the same criteria + requiring the custom role
      • Be sure that this new rank is higher in the hierarchy than the non-award version
    • You can make the outward-facing rank look the same way in terms of Rank title (but now with this icon added) if you want. You should just name the internal version differently so you can tell the difference on the backend.
